I have known Anne for about 10 years (holy shit, we’re old). After we graduated college, we went our separate ways – me to Minneapolis and her to Japan. While I’ve moved a time or two since then, she’s remained in Japan, teaching English.
But the prodigal friend returns! Well, she had returned. She came back state-side to visit friends and family for a few weeks earlier this month. I was able to take a few days off work and go visit her.
Anne’s birthday is in early September, and I wanted to make her something I could hand-deliver to her. But it had to be something that wouldn’t take up much space in her suitcase. Since I learned the basics of jewelry making at Michaels, I wanted to make jewelry. I may not have been so subtle with my text asking “Bracelet, necklace, or keychain?”
Keychain was the choice, so I gleefully skipped over to Michaels for supplies.
I found a project on michaels.com that I used as my inspiration. I sketched out the basics of what I wanted – I tailored the project to our likes and our friendship.
After I presented her with her present and showed her my matching keychain the first night I visited, she promptly clipped it on her bag and happily wore it while we went Pokemon hunting around her hometown. I’m super happy she likes it! She means a lot to me, and I’m happy I get to carry a reminder of her with me every day now.
Here’s to 10+ more years of friendship, Anne. ☺️ ❤️
